The Abundant Economy of God

ree

We live our lives in a time of economic uncertainty and pressure. Gone are the days when the Australian Dream was actually achievable, when you could pay off the mortgage on the family home in a few short years, and one parent could stay at home and look after the kids. Now, it is a slog to make ends meet: even just to make the rental payments and get food on the table, everyone is working so hard.

The golden days are over.

Jesus has comforting words to say to those who are feeling left behind. Don’t worry! he says. God will look after you. Think about the birds of the air – doesn’t God feed them? And think about the wildflowers of the fields – look how beautifully they are dressed! Like kings and queens! And they are simply flowers.

Our God – the creative centre of the universe – pulses with abundance and generosity. And our God wants to look after you. So trust in the economy of God, says Jesus.

Are these foolhardy words? Are the irresponsible to say? Some would say yes. But the thing is, the economy of the world, which we are asked to trust in, offers no security. It does not and will not look after us. A few of us will do well, and perhaps you are in that category. But it will trample on the rest and leave us behind.

Let’s gather on Sunday, and talk more about the economy of God – the economy of abundance and generosity. How are you being called to participate in that?

Abundant blessings,

Rev Andreana
